The game started slowly for Utah as the Utes allowed the Lumberjacks to be in the game early. More than halfway through the first half, NAU led 19-18 after a layup by Brooks DeBisschop. Utah then made back-to-back baskets, a jumper by Donnie Tillman and then a 3-pointer by Sedrick Barefield to kick off a 20-11 run to end the first half. At the break, the Utes led 38-30.
