SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – To Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak, the feud between him and BYU junior guard Nick Emery is officially over.
Fans of both schools will remember the incident in the 2015 matchup in which Emery punched former Utah guard Brandon Taylor. He was ejected from the game but not before he and Krystkowiak exchanged heated words from their respective benches.
But prior to the game on Saturday at Vivint SmartHome Arena, Krystkowiak and Emery exchanged a civil moment with a bro-hug and a few words. The hatchet had been buried.
Krystkowiak declined to share what the two spoke about before the game, saying that would stay between the two of them.
“It’s heartfelt on both of our parts,” said Krystkowiak. “I’m happy for him. He’s reached out, we talked before and after the game. It’s not something that’s made up, it’s not for TV, it’s just real life, being involved with sports.
He continued to say there was a lot of emotion and that it was “a learning experience for both of us.”
“I think we’re better for it,” Krystkowiak said.
Wow 🙈💯 Love playing with these boys🙏🏼 Also, grateful that one is over and the nerves are out 😅 Thank you Ute fans and BYU fans for being cool! #BYU #NextOne https://t.co/lt5tF5VZZ2
