SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The sun set on the Utah Utes’ hopes of going to the Rose Bowl with a 10-3 to Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
It’s fitting that the final play of the Pac-12 Football season is a terrible no-call by Pac-12 referees. Who knows what the #Utes do with a new set of downs in 30 seconds but this is clearly PI. #Pac12FCG pic.twitter.com/SUOKCRmfKC

Fans Outraged Over No-Call
After the game, many fans took to social media about the controversial last play of the game by the Utah offense. It appeared that Washington defensive back Byron Murphy had hit Utah receiver Siaosi Mariner before the ball arrived. Yet, a pass interference call was not issued by the referees.
That was PI.

Absolutely terrible no call. What an embarrassing moment for pac 12 officiating. The whole country saw the interference #UTAHvsUW

Well let’s leave it to the #pac12refs to ruin the end of the game with a blatant no call PI on Murphy Jr…no surprise how horrible they are deciding games with their ineptitude. Unreal how bad they are…Gotta call that. Love coach Whit getting after the ref!! #UTAHvsUW #Fox

Another game lost because the #pac12refs suck. Obvious PI on a critical play and nothing.. #UTAHvsUW

After seeing reactions from Browning and Coach Petersen, looks like the officials are the only ones who didn’t see PI #UTAHvsUW

I’d be hot if I were Whittingham too. The official is in perfect position and looking right at it. If you can’t see in real time with your eyes that the DB hit the WR early, you should not be officiating. Sorry. #UTAHvsUW

I absolutely love @UtahCoachWhitt for letting that ref absolutely have it. You review EVERY. OTHER. QUESTIONABLE. PLAY. But that one you just let it go???? 🤬 #GoUTES

Utah Fans Feel Good About Season Overal
Though they were still upset about the loss, many Utah fans felt good about how far the team had come in even playing for the Pac-12 title.
Still love my Utes. They played with such heart this entire season, and even though tonight didn’t end in a win, I still view this as a successful season. Love their fight, with this young “next man up” team. They’ll be back next year! #GoUtes #GoodJobGoodEffort

Dang. The #Utes just aren’t there yet. #UW defense is so good. It took @Utah‘s offense out of the game early and never let up.
Oh well. Winning the South to get to the Championship game is a step in the right direction for the program. #GoUtes

Will never not celebrate this team. The balled out all season and battled adversity to get their chance. They played their hearts out, that’s all we can ask. #GoUtes
