The midfielder veteran was told by club management that his option would not be picked up for 2019. Real Salt Lake will announce all of their contract options on Monday.
Following their playoff exit against Sporting Kansas City, players had their exit physicals and interviews.
Sunny had a contract dispute in the 2017 offseason where since that time to now, he has asked general manager Craig Waibel, coach Mike Petke and former RSL head coach Jeff Cassar to increase his salary.
When his request wasn’t granted, Stephen’s stayed in Spain and did not report to training camp prior to the 2018 season. The midfielder made $288,000 this past season for Real Salt Lake.
This last season, Sunny played in 23 games and started 16 matches. He has scored one goal in the 59 regular seasons games that he participated in with RSL.
