KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Real Salt Lake’s season ended after losing 5-3 on aggregate of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Real Salt Lake head coach Mike Petke was extremely pleased with his teams effort and couldn’t be more proud.
Sometimes losing makes you realize just how far you have come in your endeavor. Sometimes losing makes you realize what you have. Mike Petke experienced that emotion in the second half of Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Sporting KC in the MLS semifinals.
“I couldn’t be more proud the way they played in the second half, ” Petke said. “But I said I couldn’t be more proud of the guys after the win at LAFC but I am now.”
Real Salt Lake fought back from 2-0 deficit at half time to cut the lead to 3 -2 before eventually falling and concluding the season. ” The way they got after it in that second half I was amazed,” Petke gushed.
The coach realizes he has a young team and they learned a lot about themselves during the season and especially the last couple weeks during the playoff run. RSL fans should be proud.
“What they did during the season and during this playoff run and especially in the second half I’m proud and our supporters should be too,” Petke added.
