UTAH STATE AGGIES
Utah State Coasts Past San Jose State 62-24 On Senior Day
LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies sent their seniors out with a dominating 62-24 win over San Jose State on senior day at Maverik Stadium.
Utah State quarterback Jordan Love had five touchdown passes, throwing for 491 yards. Running back Darwin Thompson rushed the ball 15 times for 140 yards and one touchdown. He added four catches for 115 yards and two more scores.
San Jose State quarterback Josh Love threw 210 yards yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Wide receiver Tre Walker had seven receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
The Aggies set a school record with 804 yards of total offense, 510 passing and 294 rushing. It is the third most in Mountain West Conference history.
After scoring 62 points, Utah State head coach Matt Wells talked about how his offense was so dominant.
“A lot of teams get tired this time of the year. They get physically tired and mentally tired, and our guys continued to drink the Kool-Aid a little bit. They keep buying in,” Wells said.
Another Strong Start
The Aggies had a small hiccup in the first quarter as San Jose State ran a punt return 41 yards for a touchdown. Taylor Hintze mishandled the snap and was rushed to kick the ball away and the football rolled to Spartans’ Tre Jenkins, who scored the touchdown.
From there, Utah State outscored the Spartans 38-3 to take a 38-10 lead into the locker room at halftime. Love threw two touchdowns and ran in another during that stretch.
Aggies quarterback Jordan Love talked about the performance of the offense.
“Offensively today, I think it was just a dominant game on both sides of the ball, and we had some drives that were a little shaky, but all around, it was just a really good game,” he said. “We were moving the ball both running and passing, and everybody just had a really good game,” Love added.
The defense of Utah State did not allow an offensive touchdown in the first half as they allowed a special teams score and a field goal.
Aggies Finish Off The Spartans
Just 23 seconds in the third quarter, Darwin Thompson ran in a 59 yard touchdown to lift Utah State lead to 45-10.
San Jose State would score a 35-yard touchdown but the Aggies answered with Love throwing two more touchdown passes in the third quarter.
With 4:33 left in the third period, Love was pulled and Utah State inserted backup quarterback Andrew Peasley.
The Aggies finish the regular season with a 6-0 record at home.
