Rimando Says Team Flying High After Big Win
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After crushing the Colorado Rapids 6-0 on the road to claim the Rocky Mountain Cup, Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando feels like the team is feeling pretty good about themselves.
“Guys are confident,” said Rimando, who stated that the team is over the win and focused on their next game, Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium against the LA Galaxy.
With just one game before the international game, Rimando knows that this upcoming game will be very important to the team’s postseason prospects.
“It’s a six-point game for us, obviously. It’ll create some more room between us and the Galaxy if we win. We’re looking forward to it and we want to get those points.
The Galaxy are led by international superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who according to head coach Mike Petke, “single-handedly won the game for them against us last time”.
Though Ibrahimovic is a dangerous threat, Rimando feels like his team’s focus is inward, not outward.
“We’re just focusing on ourselves,” said Rimando. “Obviously they have a good team. Since we last played them, they’ve gotten some great results and gotten better as a team, as have we.”
Rimando continued, saying that being organized on defense and putting away scoring opportunities would be keys to the victory against the Galaxy, who tied their crosstown rivals, LAFC, 1-1 in their last contest.
“I’m sure there’s going to be some fans who will buy a ticket, not to see us, but to see him,” admitted Rimando. “So far he’s lived up to the hype.”
Kickoff will be Saturday at 8 p.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium.
