No. 1 BYU Volleyball Sweeps No. 24 Utah

PROVO, Utah – The top-ranked BYU Cougars women’s volleyball team made quick work of the Utah Utes Thursday night, defeating the No. 24 Utes in three straight sets.
Roni Jones-Perry scored a match-high 13 kills while teammate Kennedy Eschenberg contributed nine of her own to go along with four blocks.
The match had record attendance for BYU as 5,472 were in the crowd at Smith Fieldhouse.
Utah opened the first set with a 4-1 lead before BYU battled back to tie it up at 8-apiece. The Cougars took the lead at 15-14 on an ace by Jones-Perry and didn’t look back on their way to the set victory at 25-20.
BYU led wire-to-wire on the second en route to a 25-14 win in the second set.
The Utes took the initial lead in the second set but the Cougars would not be denied as they rolled to victory on a kill by Eschenburg to seal the deal.
BYU will next face another in-state opponent, Weber State, in Ogden on Saturday, September 15th at 2 p.m. Utah will take on Utah Valley on Friday at 7:00 at home.
