Former College Stars From Utah Open NFL Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NFL opened its regular season this week with action all across the league. Here’s how former Beehive State college stars performed on the big stage:
Former Utes
Derrick Shelby, Falcons: Made two solo tackles in Atlanta’s loss to the Eagles on Thursday.
NEXT UP: Panthers (1-0) vs. Falcons (0-1), Sunday at 11 a.m. on Fox.
Eric Weddle, Ravens: Had a hurry on Bills quarterback Nathan Peterman that led to an interception in the Ravens’ win over Buffalo.
NEXT UP: Ravens (1-0) vs. Bengals (1-0), Thursday at 6:20 p.m. on NFL Network.
Devontae Booker, Broncos: In backup duty had two catches for 11 yards in the Broncos’ victory over Seattle.
NEXT UP: Raiders (0-1) vs. Broncos (1-0), Sunday at 2:25 p.m. on CBS.
Tim Patrick, Broncos: Had one tackle on special teams in Denver’s win over the Seahawks.

Alex Smith, Redskins: Threw for 255 yards on 21-of-30 passing with a pair of TDs in the win over the Cardinals.

Kaelin Clay, Giants: Muffed a late-game punt return that sealed the win for the Jaguars.

Former Cougars
Jamaal Williams, Packers: In a starting role, rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries in the Packers’ thrilling win over the Bears.
NEXT UP: Vikings (1-0) vs. Packers (1-0), Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on Fox.
Kyle Van Noy, Patriots: Made three tackles, including one for a loss in the win over Houston.
NEXT UP: Patriots (1-0) vs. Jaguars (1-0), Sunday at 2:25 p.m. on CBS.
Taysom Hill, Saints: Took two snaps, one was a handoff to running back Alvin Kamara for a touchdown in the Saints’ loss to the Buccaneers.
NEXT UP: Browns (0-0-1) vs. Saints (0-1), Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on Fox.
Fred Warner, 49ers: Had a great game in his first NFL start, leading the team with 12 tackles, including one for a loss, had a pass-break up, a hit on the quarterback and a forced fumble in the 49ers’ loss to Minnesota.

Former Aggies
Nick Vigil, Bengals: Led his team with 11 tackles, including two for a loss in the win over Indianapolis.
NEXT UP: Ravens (1-0) vs. Bengals (1-0), Thursday at 6:20 p.m. on NFL Network.
Bobby Wagner, Seahawks: Had five tackles, one for a loss and a pass break up in a defeat to the Broncos.
NEXT UP: Seahawks (0-1) vs. Bears (0-1), Monday at 6:15 p.m. on ESPN.
Former Wildcats
Taron Johnson, Bills: The rookie made his NFL debut with 2 tackles in a loss to Baltimore.
NEXT UP: Chargers (0-1) vs. Bills (0-1), Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on CBS.
The first week of the NFL season will wrap up with a Monday Night Football double-header as the Jets and Lions face off before the Rams and Raiders do battle. Former BYU standout Ziggy Ansah is expected to suit up for the Lions. Nevin Lawson from Utah State and Miles Killebrew from SUU are also on the Detroit roster. Former Utah State offensive tackle Donald Penn is currently on the Raiders’ active roster.
